04 Sep Hennessy celebrates10 years Very Special Limited Edition
Earthy elements, autumnal hues and golden details. The Hennessy Very Special Limited Edition 2020 is a journey through the elements of the earth and its universe. South African-born Faith XLVII is the artist behind the powerful design. In 2010, Hennessy started the Very Special Limited Edition tradition, for which talents such as Pantone, Vhils, Futura and Kaws have previously created works of art in the form of bottle designs. Faith XLVII is the first female artist to join the Limited Editions series.
The proces of Faith XLVII Her designs reflect the processes involved in making Hennessy cognac; deeply rooted in nature and in harmony with the seasons. Both Faith and Hennessy rely on the collaboration with nature and the power of time. For her designs, Faith XLVII takes her time and pays great attention to selecting the right raw materials, in order to then create something new. This is no different for the selection of eaux-de-vie of the cognac Master Blender. “You could say that Hennessy Very Special and I share a similar kind of alchemy: in our own way we use basic elements to create something extraordinary.” according to Faith XLVII.
Blending the elements
This shared passion comes together in Blending the Elements, the motto of this new Very Special Limited Edition. Faith XLVII used the sun and time as central elements alongside the moon, rain and clouds. The colour palette is a combination of natural tones and peach, visualising a sunset. The vines, accented in precious gold leaf, and striking graphic lettering reference the chalk inscriptions on centuries-old barrel stores in the Founder’s Cellar in Cognac, Hennessy’s birthplace. By translating seasonal features into urban elements in surprising ways, Faith XLVII aims to honour nature in her design. Faith XLVII, who began her career and artistic journey in muralism and graffiti art, is now active as a studio artist in Los Angeles, working on objects, collages, paintings, video installations and printmaking. The collaboration for the 10th anniversary of the VS Limited Edition marks a new creative chapter for Faith XLVII. Hennessy doesn’t consider an art movement as a genre. It’s more a fusion of cultures: the cognac brand looks for interesting work within a larger movement and gives talents everything they need to be creative and create their design, ” says Faith XLVII of her collaboration with Hennessy. Building on Hennessy’s commitment to connecting with pioneers in art and urban culture, Faith XLVII has created a design that not only marks a new creative chapter for her own career, but for Hennessy as well. In this way, the collaboration also expands the brand into new frontiers within urban culture, and allows for the welcoming of other faces from broader creative categories beyond the well-known fine arts.
