03 Dec Winter cocktails with Rutte Gin & Genever
Of course, nothing is better than a nice, warm seat by the burning fireplace in good company and with typical winter aromas when outside the cold wind begins to gently howl.
At the end of this challenging year, we want to treat ourselves to something special.
We then enjoy autumn and winter with a delicious drink.
From a purple ‘Highball Halloween’ to a festive champagne cocktail for New Year’s Eve, these are the best Rutte gin & gin cocktails for the cold season!
Crimson Ghost
The dramatic crimson color is just an illusion: this drink will soothe all your wandering spirits with its warm aromas.
Rutte Old Simon is still produced according to the traditional recipe of founder Simon Rutte.
This gin has some delicious nutty malt notes that combine wonderfully with earthy beet and the fruity freshness of Pale Ale.
The warming cocktail in an eerie outfit ‘Crimson Ghost’ offers the perfect balance to a festive roast as an aromatic companion. 30 ml Rutte Old Simon 30 ml red beet juice 10 ml lemon juice 1 teaspoon sugar syrup 80 ml Pale Ale Mix all ingredients (except the Pale Ale) in a tall long drink glass with ice and stir briskly.
Then fill the glass with Pale Ale and garnish with beet chips or a lemon zest.
WINTER HOPPER
This lighter, less sweet version of the classic creamy cocktail ‘Grasshopper’ has it all: spicy notes of Rutte Celery Gin that create tension and excitement, along with the chocolate notes of ‘Dutch Cacao’ (created by bar legend Joerg Meyer in collaboration with De Kuyper), make for a deliciously spicy duo.
Instead of the usual mint used in Grashoppers, we pick a stalk of fresh parsley from the kitchen windowsill.
The “Winter Hopper” is perfect as a digestif after a good meal or as icing on the cake with dessert – Tip: an aromatic apple pie! 40 ml Rutte Celery Gin 20 ml Dutch Cocoa 30 ml lime juice 20 ml pistachio syrup 1 sprig of flat parsley Muddle the parsley in a shaker.
Shake all ingredients in this shaker with ice and finestrain the liquid through a strainer into the cocktail glass (“coupette”).
Garnish with parsley leaves.
MACATOPIA
Apple and macademia, the orange of Triple Sec, plus the flavors of ginger, cinnamon and malt of the Old Tom Genever: an explosion of winter flavors!
The Macatopia is a great drink for a mixing session during the holidays with friends on a dark winter evening.
Or as an aperitif in front of the burning fireplace on Christmas Day.
Hot tip: if you don’t have a bar shaker handy, you can also mix the ingredients in an empty jam jar. 40 ml Rutte Old Tom Genever 15 ml De Kuyper Triple Sec 20 ml cloudy apple juice 20 ml lemon juice 10 ml macadamia syrup Shake all ingredients well and pour into a tumbler glass filled with ice.
Garnish with an apple slice, a star anise or pipe of cinnamon. SLOEBETTO ROYALE It’s the last night of the year and you’re craving something special?
This festive creation is drink and dessert in one!
Champagne, the deliciously fruity, slightly bitter aroma of Rutte Sloe Gin and, as the highlight, a scoop of the best Italian lemon ice cream.
The perfect sip to be ready when the hands of the clock usher in the new year.
At the same time also very suitable as a sparkling New Year’s Eve dessert with friends or as a revival for the taste buds: the Sloebetto Royale is a true spectacle.
Happy New Year!
Add Rutte Sloe Gin and fill the glass with champagne.
ORANGE SNAPPER
For exactly that kind of day, Rutte has created the Orange Snapper.
The bright color alone is invigorating.
Celery aroma, lemon, teriyaki and spicy herbs do the rest.
Served at New Year’s brunch, this drink has spicy umami notes that will revive you.
Garnish with carrot and pumpkin slices, star anise and chili.
