Glenmorangie A Tale of Tokyo combines vibrant, bold flavors with soft sweetness and is a single malt whiskey full of sensory contrasts, just like Tokyo itself.
\nWith a desire to experiment with rare Japanese Mizunara oak casks, Dr. Bill has created a limited edition characterized by mesmerizing contrasts. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Mizunara barrels<\/strong> For 180 years, the whisky makers at Glenmorangie have been endlessly experimental and innovative in their quest to create delicious whiskies.
\nWith the “A Tale of…” <\/em>limiteds, Glenmorangie takes on a different subject each time, this time the Japanese capital of Tokyo.
\nFor Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s world-traveling whiskey maker, Tokyo has always been a place of great creative inspiration.
\nA place where busy streets are countered with quiet gardens and ancient customs with ultramodernism. <\/strong>Some time ago, while traveling through Japan, Dr. Bill wondered how he could create a single malt that could capture the contrasting pleasures of Tokyo, and what influence complex Japanese Mizunara oak might have on the Highland distillery’s light, floral character.
\nAfter a tireless search, he managed to secure a small number of Mizunara casks, which are known to impart a very distinctive and unusual flavor to whisky.
\nHe balanced the resulting unique and bold flavors of Japanese oak with Glenmorangie aged in both bourbon and sherry casks to create a wonderfully balanced whiskey that embodies the contradictions of Tokyo.

Dr. Bill Lumsden inspects the barrels Glenmorangie – photocredits Carol SachsArtist<\/p><\/div>Yamaguchi Akira<\/strong> To bring the vibrant inspiration and flavors of A Tale of Tokyo to life, Glenmorangie collaborated with Japanese artist Yamaguchi Akira, who created his own playful perspective of the city’s rich layers of history and culture in a work of art that adorns each bottle and packaging.
\nUniting his signature maximalist bird’s eye perspective style with Glenmorangie’s technicolor palette, it juxtaposes famous landmarks and features of both Tokyo and Highland Distillery, as well as traditional Japanese pursuits with nods to the whiskey’s flavors.
\nFrom the Tokyo Tower and Ueno Park to Glenmorangie’s giraffe-high boilers and lush Mizunara oak trees, there are many complex, hidden discoveries in his work, including several images of Dr. Bill scattered throughout the artwork. “I partially aged some of the Glenmorangie spirit in rare Japanese Mizunara oak barrels, which I had been curious about for some time. The influence of this wood is incredibly complex and unusual; it required balance and softening with Glenmorangie that had been aged in bourbon and sherry casks, and the result is a dram full of delicious sensory contrasts, like a trip to Tokyo.”<\/em>
